So here we are back in Rome. We went to the catacombs, right as it closed, so no dead, morbid bodies for us. Bummer. We went to these ruins along the Apian Way. Yep, closed, but we could at least look at them from afar.

This is in the entry way of some really old structure. Sorry that I don't have any more information than that right now.
Here are some of the original stones laid down from the Apian Way. Old huh?
We went back into town and revisited some of our favorite spots. We were impressed with the deeply green vines draped over this building.
There was something going on with the Vatican this evening. We were driving down a road and heard a helicopter approach. We pulled over and watched the procession of police vehicles and armed fancy cars. There were cardinals walking all over. Here was a quick snap shot of a small group of them.
Here is the Colosseum at night. It is now a haunting picture. We parked near the Colosseum, on the same street that we had used two previous times.

Here we are at dinner. Those thieves were probably smashing our windows right at this moment.
This is the scene we came upon as we walked up the slope to our rental car. No wait, the hatch-back was down and our towels were spilling out from the back. At least they left my toiletries bag and those flip flops.
Sickening
Here is Spencer making phone calls to cancel our credit cards.
This is the last picture from the trip - Spencer and Mark leaving the bed and breakfast empty handed. What do they have to carry?
Going through customs on the way home was a breeze. While everyone struggled to carry and hoist their bags, we had our light-weight plastic grocery bags. It makes me laugh now to think about it...at least that part.

sick. darn gypsies. i told my italian neighbor, gennaro, the story and he felt just terrible about it. i had to actually ease his conscience a bit, telling him that it wasn't his fault. he said that the euro really has made things worse there. so sorry.
Fun trip. We are happy we went. Sorry we didnt take more pictures of you guys. Peace!
